Results of dissolving begin immediately but will continue to develop over the next 5-7 days. Lips can become a little swollen for 24 – 48 hours following filler dissolving treatment so we suggest avoid planning social events for 24 – 48 hours. This is completely normal and will subside over a couple of days.
From our experience, waiting 4 weeks after dissolving treatment offers the best possibility of an excellent result. Occasionally 2 weeks will be sufficient but usually not if we have needed to dissolve 3 or more syringes of previously placed filler.
The lip area can be sensitive, so we use effective local anaesthetic techniques including lidocaine injections so you will typically feel very little of the treatment.
The answer to this depends on when and where you went for your filler treatment. More specifically, was a hyaluronic acid based dermal filler used and how many syringes?
In the past (10 and more years ago), non-HA fillers were common. Those are non-dissolvable.
Certainly types of HA filler used today are difficult to dissolve. Please let us know at your appointment which filler types have been used to treat you. We understand this information may not always be to hand but it really helps.
On some occasions, you may need to purchase more than one dissolving session and this cannot always be predicted in advance.
Your filler treatment history is taken by our doctor. Within this we need to know about any previous allergies in particular to bees and wasps.
You will be examined, benefits and risks discussed and a treatment plan agreed.
If appropriate to go ahead, a mandatory patch test is performed. As long as it is fully negative, we proceed to numb the lips and then administer the Hyalase (Dissolving Enzyme).
At the end of the treatment, the lips look at little larger due to inflammation related swelling and the hyalase volume added, but will soon reduce.
Hyalase (Dissolving Enzyme) is a prescription only medicine. If you are offered it by someone who you would not usually get prescriptions from - it may be being offered to you inappropriately or illegally. Caution! This does happen.
We could mention risks of permanent lip disfiguration, infections related to poorly controlled, non-sterile working environments or blindness related to a poor understanding of lip anatomy, and more. Simply put, trained doctors/dentists/nurses are best placed to provide this treatment as safely as possible. The risk of problems is not worth the money you may save by going to a non-medic in unregulated premises.
The body's own natural tissues can also be affected by hyalase - potential tissue loss. It is important to be treated by a very experienced practitioner who will know what dose to use - not just in general but for your exact situation.
If you are overtreated, there is the possibility of your own tissues losing volume.
Allergy and anaphylaxis are possible (rarely) during and after treatment. Having treatment at BooshTOX means being in a clinic with emergency treatment facilities and staff who have worked in both hospital and GP settings.
