Profhilo or Fillers – What’s the Difference? Wolverhampton & Surrounds

PROFHILO & FILLERS - THE SIMILARITIES

Profhilo is an hyaluronic acid treatment to lift and hydrate your skin, leading a rejuvenated, radiant appearance.

Sounds familiar?

Yes, Profhilo and Dermal Fillers are both hyaluronic acid based and both help to lift and rejuvenate your skin. So what’s the difference between them? Read on..

ABOUT PROFHILO

Profhilo is highly purified hyaluronic acid which is injected into the skin. It initially hydrates the skin and goes on to stimulate your natural collagen and elastin production for a rejuvenating effect.

ABOUT DERMAL FILLERS

Dermal fillers we use also tend to be hyaluronic acid based and temporary. We mostly use a hyaluronic acid based dermal filler called Juvéderm. Teosyal is another popular option in our clinic.

Like Profhilo, dermal fillers are injected into the skin. Unlike Profhilo, they are targeted at specific areas of lax skin to replenish lost volume and repair skin damage, as well as increasing natural collagen and elastin levels in that area.

WHICH IS RIGHT FOR YOU?

This depends on the results you’re looking for and, in fact, the answer might be “both”!

When Profhilo is the right choice

“I don’t want to change anything about how I look, I just want refreshed and more youthful skin”

Profhilo is excellent at reversing the general signs of ageing and dehydration. When used facially it is injected into several strategic points around the face and spreads through the skin to provide an overall hydrating and rejuvenating effect. You should expect to see a general improvement in terms of reduced skin laxity and a more radiant appearance.

Profhilo can be used to deal with the signs of ageing on your face (particularly the cheeks), neck, décolletage, chest, stomach, inner arms, hands and knees.

When Dermal Fillers are the right choice

“I’m really bothered by these deep lines or hollow areas”

Dermal fillers are used to target specific areas of wrinkles or skin folds to restore the structure of the face giving an appearance of lift and better projection. Unlike Profhilo, the thicker consistency of dermal fillers means that they stay in one spot.

They are most frequently used to deal with deep lines and folds in the lower face, although they can also be used elsewhere including finer lines and to help damaged skin.

When to have both Profhilo AND Dermal Fillers

"I have a problem area I want to change but I also feel my skin is generally lax and dull."

"I wish to rejuvenate wide areas of my face but also have specific concerns including volume loss"

Profhilo and dermal fillers can work together perfectly to manage particular problem areas and give you an overall radiance boost.

AND WHAT ABOUT B0T0X®

Wrinkle relaxing injections or botulinum toxin injections) works by relaxing the muscles used to make frequent expressions, thereby also smoothing out the wrinkles they cause and giving a chance for the skin to repair naturally.

Toxins are generally used in the top half of the face, although it does also have applications for the lower face, especially the neck where it can help to improve jawline shape, definition and neck tone.

Botulinum toxin injections complement dermal filler treatments by smoothing out muscle-related wrinkles where additional volume is not needed (eg on the forehead). It complements Profhilo by dealing with deeper lines which Profhilo isn’t appropriate for.

YOUR TREATMENT FOR THE RESULTS YOU WANT

In good aesthetic practice there is never a “one size fits all” solution. We always tailor our treatment recommendations to the result each patient desires and their personal skin type.

However, below is a general guide to the treatments we’d offer for common patient concerns, which demonstrates the difference between Profhilo, dermal fillers and toxins, and how they can work together:

  1. General ageing, sagging skin and loss of radiance – Profhilo
  2. Nasolabial folds – Dermal Fillers
  3. Marionette lines – Dermal Fillers
  4. Oral commissures – Dermal Fillers
  5. Perioral lines – Dermal Fillers
  6. Forehead lines – Toxins
  7. Lines between the eyes (“11s”) – Toxins
  8. Laughter lines/crow’s feet – Toxins
